The Baker Hotel is on the Historic Bankhead Highway in Mineral Wells, Texas and opened in 1929. The Mineral Waters from the area were said to have healing properties and the Baker Hotel was built to accommodate the large number of people coming to bathe there. The Baker was host to the Elite of the Nation and its Ballrooms featured the top names in entertainment of the era. The hotel closed in 1972 but the street floor continued to be retail space until 2000. Plans are underway to restore this National Historic Landmark!

This 1930 building is at 106 North 9th street in Ballinger, Texas. Both Fire Department and Police Department for Ballinger share this building.

This monitor W Series windmill sits on a tower made from oilfield pipe and I painted this from memory near Balmorhea at the foot of the Davis Mountains in West Texas. Finding a windmill in Texas without a bullet hole is rare but this one could double as a slice of Swiss cheese!

Available for purchase:

This is almost a nightly scene on our porch. Our cats sit and hiss from a distance as these Masked Bandits (Racoons) raid their food dish.

The Bankhead Hotel is in Strawn, Texas and so far it is the only place that I've found that carries the Bankhead Name. The brick street in made of bricks from the nearby Ghost Town of Thurber. The hotel in no longer in operation bu seems to be fairly well maintained on the outside.

Available for purchase:

is located at 308 13th Street in Wichita Falls, Texas and I'm told they are Famous for their Ribs and a drink called the Red Draft, a mixture of Tomato Juice and Beer. The Bar-L is one of only 2 places in Texas that will bring a beer to your car due to being Grandfathered when the law changed.Judging from the design of the place it is definitely Classic 50's Style!

On the day Martha and I found our ranch, we first looked at the house and then went down to the barn. I walked inside, turned around, saw this scene and said to Martha, "There's a Painting, just waiting to be painted!". For unknown reasons, I doubt I'll ever understand, this painting waited almost seven years to be finished and definitely improved with the wait. Some things are always better if they are done today and then there are others that are always better done later, but deciding which is which is the problem. One of the precious lessons I've learned from life is that clear ideas usually work and vague ones rarely do!

Several years ago I found this old Basket abandoned beside the road and took some pictures of it. Earlier this year I photographed this sassy Mockingbird and thought he just naturally belonged on the basket and since the Bluebonnetts were blooming when I was doing the Painting I thought they would be appropriate!

Available for purchase:

I was in Hico , Texas when I discovered this "59 Chevy"; which was undoubtedly designed by a fan of "Batman"; then a few miles down the road near Fairy, I found this barn. I thought the Chevy ought to be in the barn and I made the barn red because I was going to include this painting in my 1992 Battered Barns Calendar and I figured that a Barn Calendar should have at least one Red Barn!

Available for purchase:

This is Martha on the beach at Padre Island National Seashore, one of the longest unspoiled beaches in North America. There is a timeless quality about the beach, two totally different worlds meet at this constantly moving line and either side of the line is hostile territory to those who live on the other side!

"Bearly Texan" Bears were found all over Texas in the early 1800's but were hunted out of all but the Mountains of West Texas by the early 1900's. Due to being protected, Bears are returning to the forests of East Texas and and average of 30 sightings per year are being reported. This Black Bear lives at Waco's Cameron Park Zoo.

Available for purchase:

We have lots of bird feeders on our porch and the birds are usually very good at eating every seed that gets put out for them. However, one Sunflower Seed managed to make it to the ground, avoid the Raccoons that eat any seeds that the birds miss, grow and produce this beautiful Sunflower! I couldn’t resist painting this delightful surprise because I related to the Sunflower in my own life!

Available for purchase:

Early in this century, Grandmother Pool planted these Irises out in the yard of our ranch house. Because the yard was solid rock, she had to haul the soil in a wheel barrow and build her own raised flower beds. They bloom each Spring as a living tribute to her efforts and provide our cats with hiding places from which to pounce on whatever passes by!

Available for purchase:

The Male Painted Bunting is North America's most colorful Bird and it is common but reclusive and rarely seen. Seeing two male Painted Buntings together is even more rare and being an extremely territorial bird you can bet there will be a battle! This willow branch is behind my Studio and the patterns fascinated me!

Available for purchase:

The male Painted bunting is probably the most colorful bird in North America, but due to living in dense brush and forest, he is rarely seen. We had the privilege of caring for this beauty for a few days after he had flown into a windshield.

Available for purchase:

is the most frequent thing I hear when folks are looking at this Painting. I had just photographed the Old Dance Hall at Garfield, Texas and decided to take a shortcut back to the main road and found this delightful tree lined lane.

Available for purchase:

I had photographed this Eagle’s Nest on the shore of Lake Waco and the two young Eagles were about to fledge and fly away so my friend “Mark Chapman” and I decided to take more pictures. It had stormed the night before and we found the nest down on the ground with one young Eagle trapped beneath it and the other on the ground in shock. With the help of the Park Ranger and Game Warden we rescued the young Eagles and got them to a Wildlife Rehab Center. This painting is a composition from several pictures that i took “before the storm”!

Available for purchase:

BEL AIR MOTEL - is in Austin, Texas on South Congress Ave. South Congress was the main drag and the entry way to Austin from San Antonio before interstate 35 was built and there were many Grand Motels and Restaurants there to greet Weary Travelers. The Bel Air is still in Business and I thought it would be cool to fill the parking area with Chevy Bel Airs!

Available for purchase:

This Renaissance Revival Style Courthouse is in Belton, Texas and was designed by Jasper N. Preston and Sons and was built in 1884. This Courthouse had been remodeled and robbed of it's character but was restored last year to it's original grandeur!
